START A NEW OUTLINE

Save a copy of this sketch?

Starting a new outline replaces the current browser draft, including interior items and openings. Download an editable copy first so you can reopen it with Open. Undo can also restore the previous sketch until you reload.

BRING BACK YOUR CAD DRAWING

Import DXF

Linear dimensions stay on the plan. Dimensions attached to linework can be moved and locked.

Use for drawings far from 0,0. Moves the plan without changing any distances.

Layers to import

Check the units and overall size above. Imports horizontal/vertical linework and linear dimensions. Dimension values come from the measured geometry. Exploded dimension graphics and angular/radial dimensions are not converted. Text, previous sketch locks, and alignment links are not restored.

Import replaces the current sketch. Save a copy first, or use Undo to restore it until the page is reloaded.

EDITABLE CAD DRAWING

Export DXF

Full-size linework in model space, at 1:1. Zoom and print scale do not affect the exported dimensions.

1 foot in your sketch = 12 drawing units. Open the DXF directly in AutoCAD, or match these units when inserting it into another drawing.

Includes visible exterior and fixed-item dimensions, plus dimensions you kept on the plan. Dimensions remain editable CAD dimension objects. Sketch constraint locks stay in PlanSketch.

Layers: EXTERIOR, INTERIOR, FIXED_ITEMS, DIMENSIONS. Door openings become real gaps in the wall lines.

A QUICK GUIDE

Draw, select, and edit.

  1. Start an outline. Open Start a new sketch and choose a rectangle, L-shape, or Draw.
  2. Select an item. The top bar and right-click menu show the same relevant editing actions. Use the left bar for lengths, distances, names, and drawing settings.
  3. Edit a line or node. Add node inserts at the midpoint from the top bar, or where you right-clicked. Disconnect node, Remove node, Detach ends, and Delete appear when applicable. Ctrl+Z restores a change.
  4. Align or release. Drag near an aligned line or node to see a guide. Release to link; choose Release alignment to move a line independently again.

Walls, fixed items, and openings. Draw line adds interior runs; Finish run leaves an open end and Close shape encloses an item. Fixed item adds an island or cabinet. Opening places a movable gap on a wall. Select an exterior wall and choose Recess / projection, then enter its width and depth in the left bar.

Measure and select. Measure accepts two nodes or two parallel lines. Click a displayed dimension to keep it. Select it and choose Lock dimension to hold its measured distance until unlocked; labels remain movable. Drag a horizontal dimension up/down or a vertical dimension left/right. Ctrl-click adds items to a selection; the top bar and right-click menu offer Join lines, Measure gap, or Delete selected when applicable.

Numeric entry. Enter feet and inches, such as 24.5 or 24′ 6″. Locks hold selected dimensions or placements. Enter the north direction in degrees or use the slider: 0° up, 90° right, 180° down, 270° left. Print setup includes adjustable text size.

Save and navigate. Save file downloads an editable backup; Open restores it or imports an ASCII DXF. DXF import detects units, previews the true size, and lets you select layers before replacing the sketch. The browser also saves the latest draft. Export → CAD drawing · DXF saves editable full-size CAD linework with explicit units and optional dimensions. Pinch or wheel to zoom, and use Fit to frame the plan. Escape finishes placed drawing segments, clears selection, and exits fullscreen after an active drawing is finished. The desktop sidebar divider changes its width.
